Crafting Essential Oil Candles

Homemade candles infused with essential oils create beautiful, therapeutic home décor that also offers aromatherapy benefits. While candle-making requires some care, the results are worth the effort.

Choosing Wax and Containers

Soy wax and beeswax are better choices than paraffin, as they're natural and hold essential oils better. Glass containers work well for safety and aesthetics. Always use containers rated for candlemaking to prevent heat damage.

Basic Candle Recipe

Ingredients - 2 cups soy wax, 30-40 drops essential oil, candlewicks rated for your container size, glass container

Instructions - Heat wax to 185°F. Remove from heat, let cool to 140°F. Add essential oil and stir thoroughly. Secure wick in container center and pour wax. Let cool completely before burning.

Popular Blends

Zen Candle - 15 drops lavender, 15 drops frankincense, 10 drops chamomile

Energizing Candle - 15 drops peppermint, 15 drops lemongrass, 10 drops grapefruit

Romantic Candle - 20 drops rose, 10 drops ylang-ylang, 10 drops sandalwood

Safety Tips

Never add essential oils to wax hotter than 140°F, as heat damages aromatic compounds. Add oils after removing wax from heat. Trim wicks to 1/4 inch before each burn to prevent smoking. Never leave burning candles unattended.
